Relax and Rebalance
My name is Laura Dunwoody and I’m a Level 5 Clinical Reflexologist and trained at Gaia School of Natural Health; a founder partner of the International Reflexology Consortium (IRC).
After years of primary school teaching I had been contemplating a new direction. Life was hectic and I had neglected to leave time for me, leaving myself feeling stressed, exhausted and I felt I had lost my spark. Following spending time at a festival in the wellbeing tents, I was inspired to look into the world of complementary therapies.
Shortly after, I booked onto a course to train in reflexology. I have fallen in love with this amazing therapy and never get bored of the reactions from clients, especially when they have their first treatment. The effects of reflexology never cease to amaze me!
I have a lovely, private treatment room based in a friendly salon, Secretly Beautiful in Misterton, North Nottinghamshire. It is right on the border with North Lincolnshire and South Yorkshire and has free parking on site.
I am fully insured and a member of the Association of Reflexologists, enabling me to use the letters MAR after my name. Reflexologists who have trained with an AoR approved school will have completed over 300 hours of learning, and carried out a minimum of 100 treatments during training and are required to continue their training to remain a member. I work to the AoR code of conduct and ethics.
The qualification I hold is at the highest level (Level 5) and is recognised by the NHS and many health care providers and insurers, such as Westfield, Bupa, Medicash and Health Shield.
Is reflexology just a foot massage? No! Reflexology is a non-invasive complementary therapy, where I apply pressure to reflex points of the hands or feet that correspond to different body systems and organs. Stimulating these points can promote relaxation, improve circulation, reduce stress and improve overall well-being.
I have training in areas such as; looking at the effects of stress, working the meridians and chakras, lymphatic drainage, fertility support, pregnancy, perimenopause and menopause, child reflexology, palliative care and Adaptive Integrated Reflexology.
Whether you are looking for support with an existing heath condition, want to reduce your day-to-day stress levels or would just like a little "me" time, my aim is to get you feeling happier, healthier and energised with specially-tailored Reflexology treatments.
Reflexology with babies and children can help to improve wellbeing and improve sleep patterns in children of all ages. It is particularly effective at helping to soothe any stress and anxiety in children. Sessions for babies are 15 minutes, primary school aged children are 30 minutes, senior school children are 60 minutes.
Many fertility patients find complementary therapies beneficial to their health and wellbeing during treatment. If you wish to try reflexology alongside your fertility treatment, I provide sessions that will be tailored to your health and lifestyle needs. This is an area that I really am passionate about.
Lymphatic drainage can help in many health conditions such as; Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, ME, Premenstrual Syndrome. Using various techniques can help support the body in the reduction of swelling.
I can give reflexology at any stage of pregnancy that you are comfortable with. Reflexology is amazing at helping with relaxation and is a great way of getting your feet up and taking the load of for a while. According to the Association of Reflexologists, research has shown that reflexology in pregnancy can significantly reduce pain during labour, reduce the length of the first stage of labour and also improve quality of sleep in post-natal women.
Reflexology is a gentle and balancing treatment that can help those with cancer or who need palliative care. Palliative reflexology can offer physical relief and emotional support to improve overall quality of life. It is a lovely way to receive positive touch.
AIR is a different way of performing reflexology. It is a deeply relaxing and balancing treatment with simple adaptations to support clients with specific conditions such as: Children’s conditions, puberty and teenage health concerns, fertility for both women and men, pregnancy, peri-menopause, menopause, andropause, post-menopause concerns, palliative, cancer-care, and life-limiting illnesses, wellbeing for the elderly, long-covid and immune related conditions, digestive issues, muscular and skeletal problems and trauma.

How many treatments will I need?
Following an initial consultation I will suggest a treatment plan going forward.
Regular treatments are best for the body properly beginning the self-healing process.
A weekly or fortnightly appointment initially when working with specific areas of concern, moving to sessions every 4-6 weeks is beneficial.
However, if you simply want to experience relaxation, then you are welcome to visit whenever it is needed.
What happens in a treatment?
Reflexology is performed entirely on the feet, ankles or hands, so the most you’ll have to do is take off your socks and roll up your trousers! During your treatment you will sit back in a reclining chair or lie on a therapy couch, supported by cushions or pillows. You will have the option of having a blanket to keep you warm and an eye mask to help you to relax.
And don’t worry - reflexology doesn't tickle! Many clients come to me with ticklish feet or worried about their feet being touched, but find they can relax and enjoy the benefits of Reflexology.
Does reflexology hurt?
You might find some areas feel sensitive to the touch, but Reflexology does not involve hard pressing in the way something like a sports massage might. As a therapist I will be aware of the status of your feet, noticing how they feel, the temperature and colour. All these things play a part in understanding which areas of your body - as reflected through your feet - require a bit more care and attention.
Can you diagnose my health problems?
Reflexologists cannot claim to diagnose or cure, but during a treatment we get 'feedback' as to which parts of the body are working well and which are not. Sometimes Reflexology will highlight a specific area which is struggling or working hard to maintain your wellbeing; if a particular reflex point shows this kind of reaction I'll discuss it with you at the end of the session.
What are your fees?
Initial consultation and treatment: £45 for 75 minutes
Foot reflexology: £45 for 60 minutes
Hand reflexology: £35 for 40 minutes
Express hand or foot reflexology: £25 for 30 minutes
Gift vouchers are also available.
Please give at least 48 hours notice for any cancellations. Any cancellations after that will incur a 50% charge.
Can I keep on having reflexology?
After an initial course of treatment many people choose to check in monthly for a top-up, to help maintain their general wellbeing, or as a scheduled 'de-stress'. Other clients will get back in touch if they start feeling aches and pains, arranging treatments as and when they need them.
AromaReflex
In November I am going back to Gaia School of Natural Health to learn how to use aromatherapy during reflexology treatments. Choosing a treatment with AromaReflex will involve the creation of an individualised blend of essential oils tailored to the holistic treatment plan for the client. This unique blend will be used in a wax or cream during an aroma reflex treatment, and the client will take the rest of the blend home with them and use it on a daily basis for the following few weeks in order to carry on receiving the therapeutic benefits of their tailored blend!
Facial Reflexology
I will be learning Facial Reflexology (The Bergman Method) with Ziggie Bergman at the London School of Reflexology. This is a gentle but powerful treatment that has a focus on health and wellbeing and will teach me the unique benefits of applying reflexology to the face.
Indian Head Massage
I am excited to be attending a course on Indian Head Massage. I think it will be a lovely treatment to offer, that can be stand-alone, or incorporated into reflexology treatments. I will learn how to massage the face, scalp, upper arms, neck, and shoulders. Indian Head Massage can be effective in relieving many conditions including; headaches, sinusitis, facial spasm, depression, insomnia, anxiety attacks, migraines, dizziness, eye strain, frozen shoulder, neck and upper back pain.
